T'ai chi ch'uan (taijiquan) aka: 'Supreme Ultimate Fist' shortened to T'ai chi or Tai chi in the West, is a type of Internal Chinese martial art practiced for both its defense training and its benefits to health. It is also practiced for a variety of other reasons including meditational and philosophic. Some of t'ai chi ch'uan's 'Forms' are known for being practised in slow movement.
Tai Chi has spread worldwide. Most modern styles of t'ai chi ch'uan trace their development to at least one of the five traditional schools: Chen, Yang, Wu/Hao, Wu, and Sun.
